Gardens and Grounds

When we bought this property from the heirs of the last Strozzi Marquis the whole complex looked abandoned and neglected. The buildings were crumbling, some ceilings were collapsed, huge cracks were opened in the walls; what had been a lush garden and an agricultural park was turned into a tangled thicket of trees grown without care and abandoned crops.

But while the houses can be restored into defined and reasonable times, the longer and harder it is to bring a landscape to his glory, because the nature takes no shortcuts and needs its time to regenerate and heal his wounds. We have removed grown wild plants, replaced by slender but tough cypress trees and the garden has been redesigned to appear a welcoming continuation of the house and not a separate body. We built a pergola under which to eat in the warm summer evenings, an outdoor seating area with couches and tables. In the adjoining land, we have replanted the olive trees decimated by the unusual frost of 1985 and created a space for relaxing and a children's playground.

This is the result of our work, still in progress….
